Block formulas are surrounded by double dollar signs. For example, $$x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a}$$ renders, on a separate line, as
x = \frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2 - 4ac} }{2a}.
