59216e0525 AAC Encoder: clipping avoidance 
Avoid clipping due to quantization noise to produce audible
artifacts, by detecting near-clipping signals and both attenuating
them a little and encoding escape-encoded bands (usually the
loudest) rounding towards zero instead of nearest, which tends to
decrease overall energy and thus clipping.

Currently fate tests measure numerical error so this change makes
tests using asynth (which are near clipping) report higher error
not less, because of window attenuation. Yet, they sound better,
not worse (albeit subtle, other samples aren't subtle at all).
Only measuring psychoacoustically weighted error would make for
a representative test, so that will be left for a future patch.

4385a1ce8f fate/api-tests: Tests that need samples should only run if SAMPLES is set 
This change fixes a bug where a test that required a sample was being included
in the suite when SAMPLES was not set. It also improves the consistency of
variable names relating to the API tests.

e2bd03a14a fate: Avoid unnecessary pixel format conversions 
Most of the fate-dds-* and fate-txd-* tests already
output into the same pixel format regardless of
platform endianness, so there's no need to force
conversion to another format.

This fixes the tests fate-txd-16bpp, fate-txd-odd,
fate-dds-rgb16, fate-dds-rgb24 and fate-dds-xrgb on
big endian, where the tests seem to fail due to issues
with certain conversion codepaths in swscale.

Those conversion codepaths should of course be fixed, but
the individual decoder tests should use as little extra
conversion steps as possible.

c0b105756f txd: Use the TextureDSP module for decoding 
Using the internal DXTC routines brings support for non multiple of 4
textures. A new test is added to cover this feature. Hashes differ
since the decoding algorithm is different, though no visual changes
have been spotted.

4977692461 swresample: Choose 16bit internally only if input and output is 16bit or less 
or if no rematrix and no resampling is performed and the input is 16bit
note reampling and rematrix itself always use more than 16bit internally
the "internal" sampling format is the format between these steps

Its unlikely the difference from this commit is audible in any case
unless there is some bug either before or after the change.
but multiple people prefer this and it slightly improves the precission
of computations.

6ec688e1bc mp3: enable packed main_data decoding in MP4 
14496-3 suggests packing main_data of MP3 that is usually scattered
into multiple frames due to bit reservoir.

However, after packing main_data into a access unit, bitrate index
in the MPEG audio frame header doesn't match with actual frame size.

In order to accept this, this patch removes unnecessary frame size
checking on mp3 decoder.

Also, mov demuxer was changed to use MP3 parser only on special cases
(QT MOV with specific sample description) to avoid re-packetizing.

2879a4ecb9 tests: make sure subtitles tests are run with a rawdiff 
This will test properly CRLF with make fate, make fate-subtitles and any
make fate-sub-* test. Before this commit, the rawdiff was triggered only
by make fate-subtitles.

Also make sure fate-sub-* only match the tests relying on fmtstdout
command, to at least avoid failing on MingW. See

c3a73666ad avformat/mp3dec: allow enabling generic seek mode 
"-usetoc 2" now invokes the generic seek and indexing mode. This mode
skips data until the seek target is reached, and this is exact. It also
makes gapless audio actually work if a seek past the start of the file
is involved.

Change the fate-gapless-mp3 test to use the new mode, and move the old
one to fate-gapless-mp3-toc (since the test forces use of the Xing TOC).
The new mode has a different result for the seek - this result is
actually correct.

84f4be424d avcodec/aacpsy: Fix AAC Psy PE reduction calculation when multiple iterations are required 
This is a small change, but it does have a big impact on bit allocation.

all the regressions marked in the report have no audible
difference (I didn't check them all though), but the improvements can
be heard.

This affects mostly high bit rates. It's related to issue #2686.

In the report, A is the patched version, B is unpatched, all
comparisons show deltas in the form (A-B), so a positive pSNR delta
means a better quality in the patched version, and negative a
regression. Regressions are only considered for pSNR deltas below
-1db, they're considered serious below -6db.

All measurements were done with tiny_psnr.

The summary of the report inline for quick reading:

Width, Height and Sample Rate should be in the AdaptationSet tag
only if all the contained representations have the same width,

d228271813 tests/fate/opus: change test to use the official reference samples 
The official samples are 50% smaller
Avoid having reference samples which are strongly linked to the used resampler
implementation. (which for example would require new samples to be used if this
implementation changes)
Also its more correct to use the official samples instead of the current
decoder output

also enable tests
The tests also fully pass as well with the previous samples.

4372fb7a57 avcodec/webvttenc: add webvtt encoder 
Based off the srt encoder. The following features are unimplemented:

- fonts, colors, sizes
- alignment and positioning

The rest works well. For example, use ffmpeg to convert subtitles into the .vtt format:

  ffmpeg -i input.srt output.vtt

Use it instead of checking CODEC_FLAG_BITEXACT in the first stream's
codec context.

Using codec options inside lavf is fragile and can easily break when the

5e7d21c7ad ff_put_wav_header: add flag to force WAVEFORMATEX 
Partially undoes commit 2c4e08d893:

    riff: always generate a proper WAVEFORMATEX structure in
    ff_put_wav_header

A new flag, FF_PUT_WAV_HEADER_FORCE_WAVEFORMATEX, is added to force the
use of WAVEFORMATEX rather than PCMWAVEFORMAT even for PCM codecs.

This flag is used in the Matroska muxer (the cause of the original
change) and in the ASF muxer, because the specifications for
these formats indicate explicitly that WAVEFORMATEX should be used.

Muxers for other formats will return to the original behavior of writing
PCMWAVEFORMAT when writing a header for raw PCM.

In particular, this causes raw PCM in WAV to generate the canonical
44-byte header expected by some tools.

5a0bccd281 fate: force the simple idct for xvid custom matrix test 
The original test without a forced idct is still useful since it tests
the switching of the idct algorithm/permutation on x86 with MMX. MMXext
or SSE2. Make sure the test runs only if MMX inline asm is available and
force -cpuflags to all.
Add the required bitexact flag for both tests.

77d2a1ca59 avformat/rmdec: when reading audio blocks, dont leave holes when reading fails 
The fate test is changed because the reference file depends on the use of
non cleared data at the very
end. Alternatively we could upload a new reference file, though that would
then have to be changed every time the handling of a truncated frame changes
or theres a change to error concealment, each time adding a new file ...
